How to go FROM WinXP TO Win98?
I know, I know … Seems like I’m trying to go the wrong direction! But I inherited this old laptop (Fujitsu p2110), it’s got XP on it, and is pathetically slow. To the point of being essentially unusable. I don’t think it was designed to handle this fat an OS. I already upgraded to the max memory it can use, just 500 MB. I figured it might actually be perfectly useful if it were running Win98. What process would I follow? Can I use an OEM Win98 CD from some ohter PC that’s been decommissioned? Or do I need a generic Win98 install CD? Anything else I should know?

You need to make a boot floppy for Windows 98 !!
XP has it built into the CDROM, but 98 neds a boot disk,
As XP uses NTFS, you will need to format the drive first, its on the win98 boot disk –
format C:\
it will ask if you are sure,
type Y for yes
After format, reboot and start from the floppy, insert the Win98 CDROM and type “install”
